I wanted to do this car the second I saw it on-screen. I'm a huge Dodge Charger fan (albiet not the '68 in particular) but it's such an incredible car that I knew it was going to be something I'd enjoy making. With some research I discovered just how really amazing this "Maximus" Charger really is!
The cars started out as Greenlight cars, which is a first for my projects. These are so well made.. so many little rivets holding glass and dashboard and everything together. Made it a huge pain in the butt to disassemble but totally worth it! Real Rider tires from some ugly HW BLVD cars for the fronts and a lot of Shelby Cobras I picked up at a toy show for the rear tires. Every axle had to be modified with aluminum tubing to get the width just right. I found that removing the paint and wire brushing the metal body made it very shiny for a short time, but then it would tarnish within a few hours. I tried a few methods of preventing the tarnish to no avail, but a quick wipedown with denatured alcohol seemed to help get the wire brush debris off and prep it for clear coat. The real car is clear coated brushed metal so I figured that is perfectly acceptable! The prototype and first few cars have the original Greenlight VIN tag inside the engine bay, but I later decided that was unnecessary.
And as with the Supra, the card was designed with the other at the same time so they look really cool together!
