I'd wanted to make these since I did my first custom Hot Wheels. Finding 16 of these little Explorers proved daunting but after a few months and averaging about $5 each I got enough. I hand carved the dome and roof extension out of styrene then made a mold and used clear polyester to cast them. This was pretty tedious.. as was hand-painting over 450 stripes on these cars. I had to crush 16 Pontiac GTO convertibles for the wheels. Lots of detail including a custom interior. First one sold for $228.50 on eBay! This is my favorite of all my customs so far. The 3rd gen card is a better print material on one side and specific cardboard for the backs.. it feels like the real thing.
